Jesus

His Coming Foretold

Jesus’ coming was foretold by the prophets of Israel hundreds of years before his coming. There are over 300 prophecies regarding him. All came true including his miraculous birth, his sinless life, his many miraculous deeds, and his death and resurrection. He was not merely a man but God himself come in the flesh. Jesus himself states in Luke 24:4, “This is what I told you while I was still with you: Everything must be fulfilled that is written about me in the Law of Moses, the Prophets and the Psalms.”1

Here are some the prophecies that were predicted about him and later fulfilled in him:

  • Genesis 3:15

15And I will put enmity between you and the woman, and between your offspring (seed) and hers; he will crush (strike) your head, and you will strike his heel.2 Here we have the prediction of a virgin birth. The seed is to come from the woman vs. the man. In all other instances the seed comes from the man. We also have mention of the upcoming battle between Satan and Jesus, where Jesus will crush Satan (overcome death on the cross and provide a way for people to come to him) and Satan will strike Jesus’ heel (Jesus will be crucified but it will only be a temporary setback and God ultimately uses Jesus’ death as an atonement for our sin)

  • Psalm 22:16-18
16Dogs have surrounded me; a band of evil men has encircled me, they have pierced my hands and my feet. 17I can count all my bones; people stare and gloat over me. 18They divide my garments among them and cast lots for my clothing.3 Here we have a description of how Jesus was to die. None of his bones were broken, his hands and feet were pierced, and the Romans cast lots for his clothing.

  • Isaiah 7:14
14Therefore the Lord himself will give you a sign: The virgin will be with child and will give birth to a son, and will call him Immanuel.4 Here is a clear prophecy concerning Jesus’ virgin birth written more than 400 years before the event.

  • Micah 5:2
2But you, Bethlehem Ephrathah, though you are small among the clans of Judah, out of you will come for me one who will be ruler over Israel, whose origins are from of old, from ancient times.5 Again more than 400 years prior to the event, Jesus’ birth place is named.
